No fewer than three New York-bred juveniles brought six figures in the third session of the 2013 OBS spring sale of 2-year-olds in training Wednesday, led by a bay colt by New York sire Freud (Sequel Stallions[2]) who was purchased by Linda Rice on behalf of Bear Stables Ltd. for $210,000.

Foaled in March at Hidden Lake Farm in Otisville, Hip 822[3] was bred by Sequel Thoroughbreds LLC in partnership with J. W. Singer LLC, and consigned by Becky Thomas’ Sequel Bloodstock. He is the second foal from Pulpit’s Pride, an unraced daughter of Pulpit, whose only foal of racing age, 3-year-old Kozmik Kid (Master Command) also bred by Sequel and Singer, finished third in his debut at Penn National earlier this month.

The sale colt, who breezed an eighth in 10 seconds flat, has an abundance of black type under the third and fourth dams. Third dam Seewillo (Pleasant Colony) is a Grade 3 winner and a producer of two graded stakes performers. Sewillo’s daughters Perfect Copy and Doyenne have each produced stakes winners. Fourth dam Perfect Pigeon (Round Table) is a multiple stakes producer. The colt’s dam Pulpit’s Pride currently has a yearling filly by Noonmark and a weanling filly by Langfuhr.

McMahon and Hill Bloodstock, Agent went to $165,000 to purchase a chestnut filly by second crop sire Street Boss, who was bred by Danzel Brendenmuel and Gary Zweifach. Foaled at Stone Bridge Farm in Gansevoort — also the consignor — Hip 646[4] turned in a 10.1 breeze in the under-tack show. She is the first foal out of New York-bred Malibu Fire, an unraced daughter of Malibu Moon with Chilean roots bred by Edition Farm[5]. Malibu Fire’s first, second, and third dams all raced in Chile, and her dam Sobrina Del Rey (CHI) was Grade 1 placed in Chile before winning in this country for Edition Farm.

A speedy dark bay or brown filly by City Zip (Hip 611[6]) who worked an eighth in 9.4 went to Bradley Thoroughbreds LLC from the consignment of Eddie Woods, Agent LVII for $125,000. Bred by Song Hill Thoroughbreds LLC and foaled at Song Hill Thoroughbreds in Mechanicville, the filly is out of stakes placed Lizzie Toon, by Dixieland Band. Lizzie Toon has produced seven winners from eight foals to start, including Grade 3 winner Willy o’the Valley ($337,754).

The third session of OBS April saw 17 New York-breds in all change hands for an average of $65,471. The number was on par with the strong session average of $65,683, which posted a 55.6 percent gain over last year.
