Omaha Beach colt sparks October sale finale

A New York-bred colt from the first crop of Omaha Beach sold for $300,000 to highlight the final session of the record-breaking Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October yearling sale Thursday in Lexington.

Donato Lanni, agent for SF/Starlight/Madaket, signed for Hip 1337[2]. Bred by Deann Baer and Greg Baer DVM, foaled at Sugar Plum Farm in Saratoga Springs and consigned by Burleson Farms, agent, the colt is out of the stakes-producing Fusaichi Pegasus mare My Peg. A full-sister to Grade 1-placed sire Pegasus Wind, My Peg is the dam of multiple stakes winner and $246,310-earner Two Last Words and stakes winner and $117,879-earner Russian Influence.

My Peg is also the dam of the placed 2-year-old Goldencents gelding Mas Oro and a weanling colt by New York-based stallion War Dancer born May 15.

The Omaha Beach colt was one of six New York-bred yearlings to sell for six figures at the sale, along with Hip 984[3], a daughter of Flatter out of Hard to Stay Notgo bred by Chester and Mary Broman, that brought $260,000 during Wednesday’s penultimate session.

Fasig-Tipton reported 26 of 28 New York-breds through the ring Thursday sold for $1,198,500, an average price of $46,096 and median of $34,500. Overall, 75 of the 98 New York-breds offered were sold for $2,819,700, an average price of $37,596 and median of $20,000.

Hip 1417[5], a filly by Hard Spun, brought the second highest price Thursday on a bid of $115,000 from McMahon & Hill Bloodstock, agent. Bred by Richard Nicolai, foaled at Carlland Stables in Avon and consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent, the filly is the first foal out of the Grade 3-winning Irish-bred Sir Percy mare Pantsonfire.

Winner of the Grade 3 Astra Stakes in 2019 at Santa Anita Park and placed in three other stakes, Pantsonfire was purchased as a broodmare prospect by Nicolai’s Fortune Farm for $70,000 at the 2019 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. She is also the dam of a New York-bred weanling filly by Gun Runner born March 26.

Fasig-Tipton reported records for total sales ($55,426,500 on 1,100 yearlings), average price ($50,338) and median ($25,000).
