A City Zip filly whose dam is a half-sister to Z Humor was purchased by Michael Dubb from the consignment of Eisaman Equine, Agent for $155,000 as the top New York-bred in Tuesday’s second session of the 2013 OBS spring sale of 2-year-olds in training. Empire-breds fared well on the day with ten individuals selling for a robust average of $70,800.
The bay January filly, who worked a sharp 10.0 in the under-tack show and sold as Hip 366, was bred by Dr. Jerry Bilinski and foaled at his Waldorf Farm in N. Chatham. Her new owner Michael Dubb, a member of New York Racing Association Reorganization Board, is perennially one of the top owners on the NYRA circuit.
The sale filly is the first foal out of First to Come Home, a winner by Came Home ($45,723), whose dam Offtheoldblock (A.P. Indy) produced graded stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Z Humor (Distorted Humor) ($970,163). Bilinski purchased First to Come Home in-foal at the 2010 Keeneland November breeding stock sale for $15,000. First to Come Home currently has a yearling filly by Any Given Saturday and a weanling filly by Langfuhr.
Other New York-bred standouts at the sale on Tuesday include a pair of colts who sold for $90,000. Hip 591, a Freud colt out of Lavender Lass bred by Tony Grey who drilled a quarter in 21.2, was purchased by Carlo Vaccarezza. Linda Rice, on behalf of Tic Stables, purchased Hip 487, a colt by City Zip out of Honor Lass, who recorded a 10.1 breeze and was bred by Mina Equivest LLC. Vaccarezza also went to $85,000 to purchase a filly by Sightseeing out of Flingette. The half-sister to hard-knocking New York-bred veteran Six Flings (51 starts, $243,847) was bred by Dutchess Views Farm, Inc. (Hip 374)
The $70,000 average price for the 10 New York-breds who sold Tuesday did well to exceed the average for the session overall ($62,940), which saw a 47.1% increase over last year.
