NYTB Elects New President, Seats 2009 Board

NYTB Board serving member Barry R. Ostrager will serve as the new President of the Board. Ostrager is principal owner of Questroyal Stud, LLC. one of the leading stallion stations in New York which stands the high quality stallions listed on the back page of our 2009 NY Stallion Register.  Mr. Ostrager is also a Partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and is a Trustee of the New York Racing Association, Inc. He also serves on the Board of Sanctuary For Families and is a Trustee of Temple Emanu-El. Furthermore, has been on the NYTB Board of Directors since 1998.  Barry’s long standing reputation of leadership is well reflected in New York, having served previously as president of both NYTB and the New York Breeders’ Sales Company. 

Barry’s leadership agenda for 2009:

To improve the circumstances of the struggling New York breeding industry in these challenging times by working with NYRA and NYTHA to assure we receive a fair share of VLT money and to work with the New York Breeding and Development Fund and NYRA to obtain greater opportunities and rewards for New York breds, including New York sired New York breds.

New to the Board for 2009 are Lois Engel and John Thomas McMahon. Engel, owner of Pucker Ridge Farm in Warrensburg, NY and manager of Pucker Ridge Racing.  McMahon owns Old Saratoga Thoroughbreds, which operates in conjunction with McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, LLC (of Funny Cide fame). He has overseen the daily operations of McMahon of Saratoga as farm manager for ten years and served on the Board of the New York Farm Bureau.  Engel and McMahon will both serve two-year terms.

Three Board members were re-elected for two-year terms, two of them assuming Officer’s duties. Thomas J. Gallo, III was elected as the 2009 NYTB Board Vice-President. Gallo is owner and manager of Blue Stone Farm in Cambridge, NY and owner and manager of Parting Glass Racing and the Thomas J. Gallo III Sales Agency, LLC. Vivian Malloy, owner of Edition Farm in Waccabuc, NY, was re-elected as the NYTB Board’s Secretary/Treasurer. Also re-elected to the Board for a two-year term was Dr. Chris B. Purdy, owner of Ivy League Farm in Ithaca, New York.

The remaining five of the eleven Directors on the 2009 Board will, like Ostrager, be serving the second of a two-year terms: Suzie O’Cain, Vice-President of the Board and co-manager of Highcliff Farm in Delanson, NY; Dennis Brida general manager of Stonebridge Farm; Chester Broman owner of Chestertown Farm in Chestertown, NY; Joanne Nielsen owner of Sunnyfield Farm in Bedford, NY; and Becky Thomas Ray of Sequel Stallions New York.
