Chester and Mary Broman's homebred Friend Or Foe, 4-5 ML favorite along with entrymate Mine Over Matter to win SAR’s featured Evan Shipman S. on Mon., was scratched from the race after heavy rains downgraded the racing surface to “sloppy.” The 4YO, who bested Rail Trip impressively in BEL's Easy Goer S. -- his lone 2011 start (6/5) -- will race next in the G1 Whitney Invitational H. (8/6). Although trainer John Kimmel had planned to use the Evan Shipman as a two-turn confidence-builder prior to the G1 Woodward (9/3), he sounded unfazed by having to go to Plan B. “There goes the conservative route,” Kimmel said. “I guess it was meant to be. My horse is ready.”
